Dr Bij-Na Kim is a Senior Research Associate at Lancaster University. Her research focuses on alloy and microstructure design for additive layer manufacturing. She has a master’s degree in Aerospace Materials from Imperial College London. She also obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. Her thesis concentrated on the design and modelling of ultra-high strength steels, nanoprecipitation control and plasticity. Following her Ph.D., Bij-Na worked as a Postdoctoral researcher at TU Delft. She was involved in designing non-equilibrium atomic- and meso-scale microstructures and developing high-strength steel. Bij-Na has authored, co-authored and reviewed physical metallurgy articles. In 2017, she became the Phase Transformation Committee member of The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS).
